Real Mermaid Scale Nails with Lime Green Overlapping Glitter

I've been calling my glitter placement nails "mermaid nails" for a while now, because the hex glitter reminds me of sparkly scales, and that mermaids are better than fish.  Now I have so much more glitter to play with - especially circles - I can have a go at a proper scaled mani.  I've tried it once before with 3mm circles but they're just a bit too big and the top coat doesn't apply well.  Turns out 1mm is just the right size!

Not knowing how successful this would be, I chose a similar base colour to my green glitter, Urban Outfitters Smush.  It really isn't much like my lime green glitter but whatever.  Once I'd applied two coats, I went to work with my top coat, but in a slightly different way to normal.  I started at the cuticle and applied generous top coat to the bottom third of my nail.  I then laid the glitter down in rows, making sure the pieces overlapped in an attractive way.  You don't have to be too precise here because this small glitter is pretty forgiving.  Just don't skimp on the top coat and don't leave gaps and you'll be good.  Two coats of Seche Vite and you're done.

The Verdict: This actually came out a lot better than I was expecting, and it stayed on really well.  My previous version didn't totally dry completely and it was rough and caught on things.  The smaller glitter sits flat and is sparkly.  Cos that's it's job.  Now I just have to figure out how to ensure this is what I look like when I reincarnate as a mermaid.....
